Andhra Mahila Sabha Mitra Mandir – A Home for Male Persons with Intellectual Disabilities

One of the long standing projects of the Chennai unit of DDMS (AMS) is setting up of a Home for the Intellectually Challenged Adult Males.  The parents of these differently abled wards approached us to make this feasible.  After in-depth discussions with Counsellors, Professionals in this field, the Durgabai Deshmukh Mahila Sabha (Andhra Mahila Sabha) is now all set to take up this venture and turn it into a reality due to the benevolence of a number of donors.  Major contribution is from Dodla Family Trust. 

The Centre’s aims are:

To provide homely atmosphere and adhere to the concept of “HOME AWAY FROM HOME”.
To identify the skills and deficiency in each one and provide appropriate supervision by trained professionals.
To manage their functional abilities.
To provide recreational facilities, with both indoor and outdoor activities.
To ensure hygiene and nutritional aspects of the inmates and the same will be taken care by the concerned people.
Monthly health monitoring will be done.
The Home for the mentally challenged is located in the heart of the city at Mylapore, adjacent to Nageswara Rao Park, New No.1A/Old No.20, Justice Sundaram Road, Mylapore, Chennai-600 004.
