 About Us

College of Teacher Education, Andhra Mahila Sabha owes its origin to the dedicated efforts and dynamic leadership of Padma Vibhushan Dr.(Mrs.)Durgabai Deshmukh, the Founder President of AMS, the first voluntary organization in India that pioneered the cause of women and their empowerment.  She established the college in 1971 by receiving permission from Government of Andhra Pradesh and got it affiliated to Osmania University.  In 1997, the college was upgraded as a College of Teacher Education (CTE), a unique privilege conferred on a private aided college of education.  As a CTE, the responsibility of the college was enhanced; apart from conducting pre-service teacher training programmes to primary and secondary level teachers, its onus includes the conduct of orientation programmes, content enrichment programmes, Workshops, Seminars and Research Projects on thrust areas of content transaction.  As on now the college offers five teacher education programmes from Early Childhood to Post Graduate level viz. B.Ed., M.Ed., B.Ed.Spl.Edn.(H.I),  P.G.Dip in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Telugu Pandit Training (TPT) Programme.

The college is a Study Center for Sri.Padmavathi Mahila Vishwa Vidyalayam, Tirupathi (A.P) and Dr.B.R. Ambedkhar Open University for conducting B.Ed. & M.Ed. (Distance Mode) teacher training programmes for Government primary and secondary teachers.  The college offers consultancy for primary and secondary teachers of private schools as and when they approach the institution.  It conducts job melas, offers placement services to the pre-service students and alumni.

A class above other Colleges of Education in the State, this college can flaunt off without any misgiving that it is creating a bench mark in maintaining the high quality of education relevant to the needs of the society and in its uniqueness of having created certain mile stones that deserve a brief mention hereunder.

History

The inaugural lamp of B.Ed., was lit by the then Vice Chancellor   of   O.U. Prof. Ravada Satyanarayana in 1971.The college was admitted to Grant in Aid, The college was admitted to Section 2f and 12 B of UGC   Receiving UGC grants from V Plan onwards in 1976. In 1984 Post Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) a unique programme in the entire nation was introduced. UGC recognized it as a Restructured programme. P.G. Programme (M.Ed) was inaugurated by Prof .G.Ram Reddy in 1992 by the then Vice – Chancellor of O.U. The College Celebrated Silver Jubliee in 1996. Alumni Association was started and inaugurated by   Prof.E.G .Parameswaran. The College was upgraded as a CTE in1997.   As a CTE it receives grants from   MHRD Govt. of India .to improve infrastructural facilities like Building, Hostel, Equipment, Books & Labs. B.Ed.Spl.Edn.(H.I) Programme was introduced in 2000. The college started Telugu Pandit Teacher Training (TPT) course in 2002. The Language   Lab & Audiology Lab   were inaugurated in the same year..The college was conferred Autonomy in 2007.   B.Ed (Reg) and B.Ed.Spl.Edn. Courses are under the Autonomous fold. It was   accredited by NAAC with B++ Grade in 2007.

Collaboration with Delhi Public School

Pallavi Education Com Society, Hyderabad, has come forward  to collaborate with College of Teacher Education, Andhra Mahila Sabha to start a Certificate Course in Early Childhood Care and Education and also collaborate in the fields of mutual interest. In this context a Core Committee was constituted to guide and oversee the implementation of the Collaboration between Pallavi Education Com and the College of Teacher Education Andhra Mahila Sabha With the following members.

Annual day: The Annual Day of the college was celebrated on April 28th 2015. Dr.Sri.T.Chiranjeevulu, IAS             Commissioner & Director of School Education Telangana State, Hyderabad was the Chief Guest of the day. Mrs.K.Lakshmi,President, AMS was  the Guest of Honour . Dr. Smt .P. Krishnaveni, Principal presented the College Annual report, a number of cultural competitions were conducted on this occasion and prizes were awarded to meritorious students of 2013-2014 batches of all courses.

Skill Development Program in Government Observation Home for Boys and Girls.   Saidabad, Hyderabad, Nimboli Adda, Hyderabad:

As per the MOU signed by the College with Government Observation Home for Boys and Girls the Students of each course of  the College visit the two Homes and conduct various Cognitive, Creative and Value based activities to inspire and ignite the Inmate’s minds for a better tomorrow.

Child Rights Convention Week at Government Observation Home for boys 14th to 20th November, 2014.

As part of extension activities the Principal along with two other lecturers addressed the Inmates of the Government Observation Home for Boys on 17th November, 2014.

Following are the details of the lectures delivered by the Principal and other faculty:

  1. Moral Values by Dr.Mrs.P.Krishnaveni Principal CTE AMS.

  2. Life Skills by Mrs.M.Rama, Incharge of P.G.Dip.in.ECE.

  3. Healthy Habits by Smt.Suhasini.A.Baone, lecturer, P.G.Dip.in.ECE.

One day workshop on Multiple Intelligence :

The College conducted a one day workshop on ‘Multiple Intelligence, for the students of  all courses. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Mrs. T. Sudha, Director, Delhi Public School. Nacharam on 20th November, 2014 and her team of teachers. Workshop included introduction of various types of intelligence their importance, Testing of M.I and planning activities based on M.I. Hands on experience was given to the students. Towards the end of the   Workshop each group show cased their concept by incorporating Multiple Intelligence in Teaching.

World Human Rights Day: Was Observed on 10th Dec 2014. Two Guest lectures were  delivered  on Evolution Human Rights. In this context   Eminent speakers like Mr. Raghunath, Leading Advocate from High Court spoke on   Violation of Human Rights Violation of Human Rights, While. Mr.U.Sambashiva Rao spoke on  Birth, and the Need of Human Rights

and sensitized the students on  the importance of Human Rights.

International women’s day:  Every Year International women’s day  is celebrated World over. In CTE AMS it is celebrated  by the students with great spirit. This Year an   Essay  writing competition was conducted in English and Telugu on Women  Empowerment  .To commemorate the day a guest lecture was arranged on 9th March 2015.

Fete : Students of B.Ed. Regular 2014-2015 conducted a fete on 21st April 2015 with the    ‘Festivals Of India’ as the theme .The students exhibited their culinary skills, their artistic and   cultural  talents.

World Earth Day : The World Earth Day was observed by students of   B.Ed ®with great insight a Power Point Presentation was made  on the importance of Earth Day its past, present and future conditions and the Role of Teachers in creating awareness. Ganga Bhavani 1st Prize.

Review Meet for Skill Development Program in Government Observation Home for Boys: A Review Meet was held on 24th, April, 2015. to discuss the  Life Skills  Activities for  the forth coming Academic Year in the Government Observation Home for Boys Saidabad ,Hyderabad

Competitions : A number of Cultural Competitions were Conducted  for the students of the College  to Encourage Participation and Showcase the talents of the teacher trainees in the area of solo Singing Anthyakshari , Dance , Fancy dress Competition, Rangoli and Flower arrangement.

 M.O.U with Government Observation Home for girls Nimboli adda 3rd April 2014 –

Pleased with the work of the college in the Government Observation Home for Boys Saidabad, Hyderabad (MOU signed on 9th Oct, 2013).  The Juvenile Justice Board requested the college to extend its services in the Girls Home.  Therefore the college signed an M.O.U with Government Observation Home for girls Nimboli adda on 3rd April 2014.  In the presence of Sri.D.Durga Prasad Principal II Metropolitian Magistrate, R.R.District to conduct Skill Development Programme for the inmates of the home. Sri D.Durga Prasad principal, magistrate, Juvenile Justice Board, Ranga Reddy District was the chief guest of the evening.

UGC Autonomy Peer Team visit: The UGC Autonomy Peer Team  visited the College from 24th  to 25th August 2015 to accord permission for the grant of Extension of Autonomy to the college.

Academic Meetings : The Board of Studies and Academic Council meeting for B.Ed.(G) and B.Ed. Spl. Edn. (H.I) were held on 16th  September and 26th September 2015   for curriculum revision.

Endowment lectures: Prof.R.Krishnarao second memorial lecture by M.V.R.Sastry on 3rd October, 2015 conducted by Society for promotion of Adult Continuing Education – SPACE, State Resource Centre, Hyd and Andhra Mahila Sabha, College of Teacher Education, Hyd.

Publications: CTE, AMS in its endevour to promote quality has two publications to its credit “Ujwala” the College Magazine and a News letter “Teacher” a quarterly circulated across the state.  Apart from these the college also contributes on a regular basis to the News letter published by AMS Trust Board.

Publications by faculty    

  1. 17  books  were  published  by  the  faculty  of  P.G.Dip  in  (ECE)  for Children of   Pre primary level.

  2. Faculty has contributed as Co-authors and Translators for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar   Open   University,   B.Ed   (DM)   and   Early   Childhood Education     curriculum modules

  3. Two lab manuals in Biological and Physical sciences have been     prepared and text book in Methods of teaching   Biological Sciences was co-authored.

  4. 10 State level seminar documents, 2National seminar document.

  5. Reading material on Educational finance and planning

  6. Document on learning competencies in School subjects for Class VIII of Andhra Pradesh State curriculum.

  7. Teaching Modules on Certificate course in Early Childhood Care and Education.

  8. Teaching Modules on Certificate course in Human Rights Education

  9. Mrs. J .Kamakshi lecturer in Methods of Teaching Biological Sciences Co Authored a text book on Methods of Teaching Biological Sciences. The Book     was released in the month of December.2013.

“International and National collaborations”:

  1. National  Institute  of  Hearing  Handicapped  (NIHH) and  National Institute for Mentally Handicapped(NIMH),Hyderabad

  2. Students are sent for institutional visits.  Staff expertise is extended and received.

  3. English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU),Hyderabad

  4. Staff and students are invited to participate in academic programmes.

  5. National   Institute   of  Nutrition(NIN) ,Centre   for  Plant   and Molecular Biology(CPMB), Centre for Cellular and Molecular     Biology(CCMB) ,Hyderabad

  6. Field visits to  pre-service  and  in- service teachers to the scientific organizations  for enrichment  in content and processes of contemporary research.
